It is not a purely natural waterfall but a stream reshaped with poured concrete tiers, so water steps down the hillside, each tier with a shallow pool. lovethailand.org and TrueID agree on this, while one English site calls it a limestone fall, which conflicts; no verified tier count or height was found.
It is a local picnic spot with restaurants, drinks, souvenir and produce stalls selling fruit such as langsat, and families spreading mats by the water. The weir gives a full view of the cascade with fewer people than below.
Mae Phun is described as the birthplace of the Long Lap Lae and Lin Lap Lae durians, both registered as geographical indications and grown on rain-fed hillsides — nicknamed "durian raised by the gods". Silpa Watthanatham says durian and langsat arrived in Lap Lae over 200 years ago with a governor of Lap Lae.
In 1950 Lin Panlad planted the seedling that became the Lin Lap Lae variety; in 1977 a contest was won by the tree of Lom and Long Upala at Ban Mon Nam Cham; and on 20 September 1978 a committee chaired by the governor certified the name Long Lap Lae.
The best time is late rains to early cool season, about August–December, with full flow and green forest; flow thins March–May. Or come for the fruit — Lap Lae durian around May–June and the langsat festival in mid-to-late September. Public holidays are busy.
Open in daytime, about 08:00–17:00, and free. Songthaews leave from Thammaphisathit Road in Uttaradit town about every 30 minutes, 06:00–17:30; check return times. The concrete and rock are mossy and very slippery: wear non-slip shoes, watch children closely and stay in shallow pools.
Nearby are Mon Lap Lae viewpoint (about 4 km), the Lap Lae city gate (about 5 km), the Lap Lae museum (about 6 km) and Wat Phra Thaen Sila At (about 18 km).
