The story of this place
Phra That Hin Kiu at Doi Din Chi, officially a monastic residence rather than a full temple, is at Ban Wang Takhian, Tha Sai Luat subdistrict, Mae Sot, Tak, on a hill above the Moei River plain, about 12–15 km from central Mae Sot and 5 km from Rim Moei market.

"Hin Kiu" means a rock with a pinched waist, after the boulder's narrowed base, and "Doi Din Chi" a hill of scorched-looking dark soil. Locals also call it the "Hin Phra In Khwaen" chedi, after Myanmar's similar Kyaiktiyo (Golden Rock), and call the enshrined relic "Phaya Long".
Local legend says it was built by a Karen devotee named Pa Su Cha while Burma was under British rule. He loaded rupee coins onto an elephant to find a site and chose this boulder on a cliff because it recalled the Golden Rock. It is said to enshrine Buddha relics and five gold Buddha images. No document gives a year, so it can only be said to date from the British colonial era in Burma, by tradition.
The chedi is a small Mon-style stupa about 2.5 m tall, about as wide as the rock. Sources call it Mon in style though built by a Karen, reflecting the Mon-Burmese forms used by Karen Buddhists in the border area.
Concrete steps lead up the hill, then a path of under 100 m near the top reaches a pavilion and the chedi on its ledge; the final stretch is uneven natural rock. The top looks over the Moei valley fields to the hills of Myawaddy. A Buddha footprint is kept in a glass case.
On 5 April 1996 villagers of Ban Wang Takhian found a dugout boat carved from a single log, about 13.35 m long and some 200 years old, probably used to carry goods across the Moei. It is kept at the foot of Doi Din Chi.
A worship festival is held every February, the busiest time, with stalls; the exact lunar date was not found. The best months are November to February, cool and dry; mornings and late afternoons are cooler.
It is open daily without fixed hours (go in daylight) and is free. There is no public transport, so drive: from Mae Sot head toward Rim Moei market, then turn through Ban Tha At and Ban Wang Takhian for about 3 km. Border-area checkpoints sometimes ask for ID. Combine with Wat Thai Wattanaram, about 8 km away, and Rim Moei market.
